Senior Cyber Systems Engineer

Overview

Talon Defense is seeking a Senior Cyber Engineer to design, integrate, and support secure cyber infrastructure and mission systems that enable cyber operations and research. This role focuses on building, maintaining, and enhancing resilient infrastructure, platforms, and support systems in classified environments. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in cybersecurity, systems engineering, and infrastructure support, with the ability to lead technical efforts and ensure mission systems are secure, reliable, and operationally effective.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain secure cyber infrastructure and supporting systems for operational environments
• Lead integration of software, hardware, and network components into mission-ready cyber systems
• Support configuration, hardening, and sustainment of systems within classified and controlled environments
• Ensure infrastructure meets security, performance, and availability requirements for cyber operations
• Collaborate with cyber operators and engineers to align infrastructure and systems with mission needs
• Implement and maintain containerized and virtualized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, VMs)
• Support system monitoring, logging, and incident response capabilities across cyber platforms
• Develop and maintain automation tools for system provisioning, configuration management, and maintenance
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex system, network, and infrastructure issues
• Support DevSecOps pipelines and infrastructure integration processes
• Evaluate emerging infrastructure technologies and recommend enhancements to improve mission support
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in infrastructure and systems engineering efforts

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, systems engineering, or infrastructure support roles
• Strong experience supporting and maintaining secure infrastructure in DoD or Intelligence Community environments
• Experience with Linux system administration and secure system configuration
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and secure architectures
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Experience with virtualization platforms and hybrid infrastructure environments
• Experience working in classified or secure operational environments
• Ability to troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain complex infrastructure and systems
• Ability to lead technical efforts and collaborate across cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or related field
• Experience supporting USCYBERCOM or Service Cyber Components
• Experience with cloud environments such as AWS or Azure
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
• Knowledge of DevSecOps pipelines and automated infrastructure deployment
• Experience working in cyber ranges, labs, or test environments
• Familiarity with zero-trust architectures and modern cybersecurity frameworks
• Prior military or government service in a cyber or technical role
