Type: Full-time
Development

Clearance Required: Active TS with SCI eligibility

About the Role

Talon Defense, Inc. is a small, agile U.S. defense contractor focused on cutting-edge cybersecurity and national security missions. We're seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and deploy scalable and secure systems for cyber, analytical, or operational use cases. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in secure software development and integration of cyber tools into mission environments.

In this role, you will work closely with key stakeholders, analysts, and system engineers to deliver cutting-edge capabilities that address evolving threats. This is a position that demands technical curiosity, strong foundational knowledge, and a willingness to push boundaries. You'll work closely with a small, high-impact team, contributing to projects that support real-world operational needs.

As an early-stage company, we're looking for someone who's excited to go beyond traditional boundaries—whether that's writing core services, standing up infrastructure, debugging low-level code, or improving our internal tooling. If you're flexible, proactive, and ready to help build something from the ground up, we'd love to talk.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Programming: Proficiency in at least one systems or application language (e.g., Python, Go, C++, Rust)
  • Development Practices: Experience with modern software development practices: version control, testing, CI/CD
  • Systems Knowledge: Understanding of operating systems, networking, and secure coding principles
  • Independence: Ability to operate independently and take ownership of projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Containerization: Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Podman) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Platforms: Experience developing for Linux and/or Windows environments
  • User Experience: Experience designing user experience based on user feedback and interviews
  • Methodologies: Understanding of Agile or DevSecOps workflows

Desired Qualifications

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Comfortable contributing across the stack—from backend APIs to CLI tools or UI development
  • Prior experience with cybersecurity, reverse engineering, or embedded systems
